I did exactly that.

My kit (3/20) did not have the 'taco' shaped metal strip later kits had. I counter sunk the plastic and flush rivet the small nut plates to it. If I have the metal backing strip I would have installed the nut plate to that.

My IA neighbor (he works as contractor for the gov on a fleet of Piper Cubs and deals with cold WX ops) and I are devising a bowden cable hinged door to control the airflow over the radiator. He has a similar design on the cubs that works very well.

Dunno about the antennas. The old Bonanza had a retractable step (with the gear). My wife would object to removing the step for sure. I guess it is a calculation of your personal aggravation "Return on Investment" to figure out something different. I'll be curious what you come up with.
