According to the build quote I got last week I'm looking at a $440K estimate on the builder assist for a full IFR package. However, that doesn't include additional paint which is at least $10K, nor the long range tanks at $8K or external alternator for $4K. All in with tax in California that's over $500K.

I have no idea how you'd be able to produce a TSI at $250K given current pricing. Are you talking about a budget of $250K for the kit and powerplant without avionics?

The TSi kit was ~$125k when I ordered it 1.5 years ago, avionics will be $50k, engine/prop $80k. (That's including Swedish 25% VAT.) Misc stuff may run it up by maybe an additional $10k. I'm not using build assist.
